BPRA draws up anti-incinerator campaign strategy

Up in arms (Cropped from a picture by Jason Reeve)
Members of the BPRA gathered in the URC hall last night to hear Cathy Roe, Secretary of HAI (Hatfield Against Incineration), outline the many reasons why Brookmans Park residents should be joining the fight to stop the Hatfield Incinerator, and how best to do that at this late stage.

Cathy asked for urgent action from Brookmans Park on four fronts:

1) Send "lots and lots" of letters and emails of objection - as many as possible! Even if residents have objected before, they should send another letter or email saying that they still object "regardless of the extra information submitted by Veolia in July, we still object". This last phrase is to acknowledge the 'extra information' that Herts CC has just received from Veolia in support of their case.

Letters go to Leanne Palmer, The Planning Inspectorate, 3/02 Kite Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Bristol, BS1 6PN. Quote case no 2192045. Send 3 copies. Emails go to quoting case 2192045

2) Attend the Public Enquiry! If you can only spare a little time, make it in the morning of the first day on Tuesday 10th September so that the arriving Planning Inspectors see the full scale of opposition. Meet at the Fielder Centre at 9.30am for a 10.00am start. This will need home-made banners and posters!! There is apparently plenty of parking at the centre, postcode for Satnavs AL10 9TP

3) Help HAI to deliver their leaflets in Brookmans Park in late August.

4) Help to raise funds for the extra legal help - the enquiry has been doubled from 3 weeks to 6 weeks and there needs to be extra legal representation. Veolia and Herts CC have no problem with finding funds, but HAI and the umbrella organisation New Barnfield Action Fund will struggle.

Members of the BPRA agreed that urgent action was needed. Teams of volunteers signed up to a door-to-door campaign to start as soon as possible. Residents will be given information about the BPRA and an invitation to join and become voting members, together with information about the Brookmans Park Anti-Incinerator campaign and template letters of objection.

It was also agreed that the BPRA would urge and encourage as many residents as possible to attend the enquiry, and that they would help to deliver the HAI's leaflets in late August.

All leaflets, letters and any other documentation will also be published on this website for all to see and download.

Updates will be tweeted using our Twitter account @brookmansparkRA and copied to our Facebook page. You can keep up to date with the important dates.
