Herts CC to fund 'huge chunk' of Veolia's legal bill

From the front page of the Welwyn Hatfield Times today "County to foot huge chunk of Veolia's legal bill at waste burner enquiry"

'Taxpayers will have to not only pay for the county council's legal costs at the upcoming Hatfield incinerator public enquiry, but also £250,000 towards applicant Veolia's fees - taking the total to £500,000'.

'Terry Douris, Conservative, the county council's cabinet member for highways and waste management, called the six-figure sum "a very tiny amount in the overall scheme of things". He added that the council was contractually obliged to put up £250,000 of Veolia's legal fees, but denied that a mistake was made in signing the contract'.
